By all counts 2009 was a tough year in terms of steel production, but with a rebounding economy in many Western countries has led to a significant increase in steel production in 2010.  According to worldsteel.org the first six months of 2010 has shown a 27.9% increase over the first half of 2009.

Steel is our business, and we are always on the lookout for excellent resources for timely news and opinions on the latest happenings in the steel industry.  So aside from our subjective opinions, we've also collected some metrics to show the relative importance and value of these pages as ranked by Google and Yahoo. 

Steel is what we know, and steel is what we do.  So we wanted to see how much everyone else knows about steel.  We've put together a short quiz to see just how much people know about steel.  Take a couple minutes and find out yourself.

It's been a busy week of news in the steel industry, and we at Capital Steel thought we would take it upon ourselves to share some of the bigger stories in the news this week. 

Several recent trends indicate that our urban and suburban skylines might be evolving in the years to come. According to an analysis of internet search data over the last year, the popularity of green roofs is on the rise.

Local steel and wire distributor Capital Steel & Wire has announced they’ve purchased a sixth production saw called the Nishijimax.  This addition will give Capital Steel the ability to cut from .500" to 6" on production cold saws.  Delivery for the new saw will be available by the end of the month.

Capital Steel and Wire is going to be at the National Industrial Fastener show in Las Vegas from 11/16-11/18.  Our booth is 922. The National Industrial Fastener Show is one of the most prominent showcase of manufacturers of fasteners, master distributors, fastener importers and providers of other related products and services with distributors in the distribution chain.

To those on the outside, the rolling process is an unknown. The average person may be completely unaware of what rolling is, but it is something that is extremely important to know in the steel industry.
